Question by : What do you think of Google’s “Project Glass”?

I saw the concept video last night, and I thought it was a really interesting idea. I could see this idea catching on really quick with the younger generations. I’m just not sure how they’re going to make it so the data doesn’t block out too much of your real-life vision. I can see a lot more car crashes and other accidents because of that.
If they can fine-tune this prototype idea, it could definitely be a great invention.

it is awesome! it si something that will change the world!
Meh, just wait until the first internet-enabled contact lenses become commercially available.
Project Glass is a research and development program by Google to prototype and build an augmented reality head-mounted display. Though such displays for augmented reality are not a new idea, the project has drawn media attention primarily due its backing by the major public corporation, as well as the prototype, which is smaller and slimmer than the previous designs for head-mounted displays. The first Project Glass demo resembles a pair of normal eyeglasses where the lens is replaced by a heads-up display, and may be integrated into people’s normal eyewear in the future.
Simply awesome!!!
I’ve blogged abt it too

I believe technology is going too far with this project.
Most of the time, the guy was just talking into his glasses. For example, at the bookstore he could have socially interacted with another human being to ask for the music section, or even looked for it himself.
Some of the stuff he was doing seemed pretty lazy too. I mean, with the ease of just being able to use glasses, no one is going to go out of their way to actually meet people. On his “date” he didn’t meet up with the girl face to face. Instead, he did video interaction, but he didn’t go out of his way to meet her.
While some things about the project seem great, and in theory it seems good it’s really going to make us even more anti-social and it’s also going to make us lazier. Many people might use this product well, but many other people are just going to let their brains rot and not go out of their way to meet someone. It’s already bad enough as it is with people using their phones to go on Facebook and such instead of going to do face to face interaction. I’ll try having a conversation with someone, and then they’ll go on their phone to chat up with someone else on Facebook. Obviously, these advancements in technology are creating anti-social behaviour.
Years and years ago, people actually went out of their way to walk miles or ride on horse back to see someone in the out back miles apart. This demonstrated high levels of friendship and pro-activeness. What about letters as well? People actually went to the effort to write a letter and send it to someone! Now a days, it’s okay to type up something in a few minutes with internet slang. As long as it’s easier, right?
The point is, that society is becoming lazier and we are becoming more anti-social. Crime rates are going up because of this anti-social behaviour. No one thinks rationally anymore and some people will even go as far to kill another person over a Facebook post. With this new technology, people are going to use it because it’s easier, but become more anti-social in the process. We don’t need this technology. We don’t need to trust some big corporation with our personal information.
What we do need is advancements in other more important fields, such as medicine. If we don’t need something, then why are we being given it? I’m all for making life easier and stuff, but the problem is that life isn’t simple and that this will affect people negatively as it obviously already has done with the invention of iPhones and social networking.
Therefore, because we don’t need it I really do believe it’s pointless. It’s going too far.
